Mwamba Mining Strengthens Leadership Team with Chief Sourcing Officer

MWANZA, TANZANIA / ACCESS Newswire / August 20, 2025 / Mwamba Mining has recently appointed David Sturmes-Verbeek as their Chief Sourcing Officer, reinforcing their mission to revolutionize artisanal and small-scale gold mining through ethical sourcing, mercury-free technology, and community-centered development.

David joins Mwamba at a pivotal time. The company has recently gained global attention following recognition by the World Gold Council as a leading example of centralized, mercury-free gold processing as a lever for development in the ASM gold sector. His role marks a strategic investment in Mwamba's operational infrastructure and long-term impact.

"We are not just sourcing gold. We are cultivating trust and creating opportunities for the communities we serve," said Thomas Cornew, Mwamba's co-founder. "David's track record of building ethical supply chains and aligning field operations with global ESG standards makes him the ideal partner to lead this next chapter."

Joining the Mwamba team after nearly a decade of pioneering work in the non-profit sector as co-founder of The Impact Facility and Fair Cobalt Alliance, David comes with hands-on experience around impact investment, responsible sourcing and ASM professionalization across the East African artisanal gold and Congolese copper-cobalt sector.

As Chief Sourcing Officer, David will spearhead the development and expansion of Mwamba's sourcing systems across Tanzania. His responsibilities include leading the development of the digital ecosystem for miner onboarding, traceability and service provision, ensuring compliance with Mwamba's responsible mining protocols, and expanding global buyer relationships that prioritize responsible procurement and strategic growth.

For Mwamba, sourcing is not just logistics. It is the front line of change.

"Artisanal miners are the backbone of the global gold mining industry. When we create a sourcing and investment ecosystem that is transparent, traceable, and mutually beneficial, we build something far more valuable than gold. We build equity and resilience," said David. "I'm excited to join a team that makes sure that the people most impacted by mining activities benefit the most."

David's approach aligns with Mwamba's belief that sustainable mining requires investments not just in technology, but in people.

With exploration projects underway and scalable processing models already proven effective, Mwamba's leadership team sees David's appointment as a catalyst for operational maturity and long-term stakeholder trust.

"Every step forward in sourcing is a step forward for the entire industry," said Samwel Bahebe, Mwamba co-founder and 2024 Tanzanian Changemaker. "David brings the vision and structure to turn our sourcing philosophy into a scalable reality."

With David now at the helm of its sourcing division, the company is doubling down on its promise: to make responsible gold not just possible, but also profitable for everyone involved.

"Mwamba was built on the belief that good business ethics and shared value are catalysts for growth - especially in the mining industry," said Ed Cornew, Co-Founder of Mwamba Mining. "Mineral wealth is by definition a sovereign asset. We are building scalable systems that acknowledge this truth and put mining communities first - subverting extractive, often exploitative models common in the ASGM sector. This is how we differentiate, this is how we outcompete."

As Mwamba enters this next chapter, David's leadership will serve as a key pillar in scaling both operational excellence and ethical integrity. From expanding mercury-free processing sites to deepening direct partnerships with artisanal miners, the roadmap ahead is ambitious. And it's all by design.
