As donor contributions decline, the Global Health Advocacy Incubator is scaling its efforts to help low- and middle-income countries secure sustainable immunization funding through local policy reform and advocacy.

-- The Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) has launched an expanded set of advocacy strategies to strengthen domestic immunization funding in countries across Africa and Asia, amid a global reduction in external donor support.

The Washington-based organization is working to fill critical funding gaps through a combination of parliamentary engagement, local leadership mobilization, and strategic media outreach, including a regionally focused podcast. These efforts aim to help governments prioritize long-term investments in immunization programs.
The organization's podcast, "One Shot, Long Life!," features interviews with advocates, policymakers, and public health experts discussing country-specific vaccine financing challenges and highlighting recent policy wins. The platform is intended to inform and empower local stakeholders facing the evolving global funding landscape.
Many countries are already facing substantial shortfalls. According to the podcast series, in Côte d'Ivoire, domestic contributions account for just 14.35% of the national immunization budget. Madagascar's domestic share stands at only 0.14% while Nigeria currently faces a $200 million annual gap while working to reach over 2.2 million zero-dose children.
GHAI's approach includes direct partnerships with parliamentarians, mayors, and civil society organizations. It also delivers technical assistance and capacity-building support to help local actors advocate for sustainable public health financing.
"Countries must develop sustainable financing mechanisms to protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases," a GHAI representative said. "Our strategies focus on mobilizing domestic investment and strengthening accountability systems to ensure long-term program success."
