Designed for governments’ fieldwork, the new AI-powered tool equips public servants to capture data and manage inspections in accordance with Forerunner’s AI policy
(PRUnderground) April 2nd, 2026
Forerunner, an AI-powered geospatial platform transforming how governments manage their built environment, today announced the launch of AI Assistant, a new mobile tool that enables field-based government teams to capture inspection data faster, more accurately and with traceable auditability. In conjunction with this launch, Forerunner is also introducing its AI policy, which ensures AI tools support human expertise while maintaining transparency, security and accountability.
Designed for the realities of government fieldwork and accessible directly from Forerunner’s mobile app, AI Assistant is an intelligent field partner that works alongside inspectors in real-time. Using a combination of photo capture, live camera analysis and voice-guided interaction, the tool can identify conditions on the ground, from storm drain obstructions to asset damage, and answer inspector questions while automatically completing inspection forms. These observations are turned into audit-ready records that are geocoded to the asset, synced to the inspector’s account and available instantly for follow-up action. The result is more consistent and thorough inspections, whether it’s helping a new team member get up to speed or freeing experienced staff to cover more ground.
Forerunner’s AI Assistant supports a wide range of municipal operations, including stormwater inspection, asset management, code enforcement, floodplain management, disaster recovery and more. The tool is grounded in each community’s specific data, including geospatial (GIS) layers, historical records, municipal codes, local ordinances and standard operating procedures. As a result, every AI-generated output reflects how a given agency operates, from suggested conditions rating to flagged observations, enabling inspectors to trust the results without starting from scratch and help their respective communities achieve faster, more reliable outcomes.
“Our AI Assistant is built to support public servants, not replace them, by helping them work with better data,” said JT White, CEO and Co-Founder of Forerunner. “Today, much of this critical work still relies on outdated systems and manual processes. Our partners don’t need generic tools that guess—they need systems they can trust. We’re investing in the people on the front lines by equipping them with real-time, intelligent tools that reduce administrative burden and let them focus on what matters most.”
Forerunner’s AI Assistant is guided by the company’s AI policy, which was co-developed with partner communities to ensure all tools provided by the company meet real-world, public sector’s operational needs while remaining transparent, secure and ethical.
Forerunner’s AI policy emphasizes:
- Human oversight: While the company builds tools that handle administrative “heavy lifting,” users remain in control of reviewing, editing and finalization of all information.
- Verifiable and traceable logic: Committed to ensuring AI-generated outputs are transparent and traceable, thereby providing users with the context needed to act confidently while maintaining accountability.
- Data integrity: Forerunner helps centralize geospatial data and records into a structured system, creating a stronger foundation for automation. By improving data organization and visibility, we ensure AI-driven workflows operate on reliable information and produce outputs that are defensible.
- Data security and compliance: SOC 2 Type II certified and use security-reviewed AI infrastructure providers that process and store data within the United States, ensuring your data stays protected throughout its lifecycle.
- Configurable control: All of Forerunner’s partner agencies have the choice when and how AI features are applied.
- Accessibility and privacy: All public-facing features are ADA-compliant, and user data is never used to train third-party models to ensure everything is structured and compliant with U.S. regulations.
White added, “This is a defining moment for AI in government. Public servants are right to be thoughtful about how it’s used, which is why we’ve built our AI with a focus on security, privacy and clear governance from the start. We work alongside our partners, grounding AI in their data, workflows and expertise, to deliver tools that are practical, trustworthy and ready for real-world use.”
